Five killed in three separate Kansas accidents

TOPEKA, Kansas – Five people have died in traffic accidents in Kansas during the holiday weekend.

A Haysville duo was killed and two other people injured Saturday when three vehicles collided on U.S. Fifty four near Pratt, the Kansas Highway Patrol said.

The patrol says 60-year-old Nasario Trujillo, and 58-year-old Mary Lou Trujillo, were both killed in the crash. They were from Haysville. Two other people injured in the accident were hospitalized.

Topeka police say two people were killed Saturday night when the car they were in ran off a Topeka road. Police say the driver and passenger were pronounced dead at the scene. The accident remains under investigation, and police say the victims’ identities haven’t been released.

A Junction City teenage was killed and two others were injured following a rollover accident in Riley County Saturday afternoon.

The Riley County Police Department reports at Three:29 Saturday afternoon they received a nine hundred eleven call from a passerby who reported a one vehicle rollover accident with entrapment in the three thousand two hundred block of Stagg Hill Road in Manhattan. Responding officers found that the vehicle had three occupants at the time of the accident. Cheyanne Olivia Higgins, Legal, of Junction City was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 2nd passenger was transported to Stormont Vail in Topeka, and his current condition is unknown at the time. The driver of the vehicle is in stable condition at Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan. Early investigation indicates all occupants were wearing seatbelts.

RCPD says it is not believed that any other vehicles were involved in the accident and the exact cause remains under investigation.
