In order to run its saffron chariot successfully across the country in the upcoming General Elections in 2019, the Prime Minister’s cabinet is set for a reshuffle. Very likely the Last Reshuffle of the Union Cabinet ahead of General Election’Nineteen is likely to take place on Sunday at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. Prime Minister Modi will leave for China soon after the swearing-in ceremony to attend the BRICS Summit. Amidst speculations of who will be promoted, inducted and demoted – Rajiv Rudy, Sanjeev Balyan, Faggan Singh Kulaste, Kalraj Misra and Mahendra Pandey have resigned from their offices. However, Mahendra Pandey will now be Uttar Pradesh BJP’s chief. As per the sources, 14-15 fresh ministers could be inducted, while 7-8 could leave, some for the party organisation. The upcoming state polls in- Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan are due later this year and in 2018. Apart from spectacle, the state elections could be a possible factor for the reshuffle of the ministers. While the RSS and the top leaders of the BJP have been consulted, it is PM Modi and BJP’s chief strategist Shah who will take the final call.

Four Union Ministers – Uma Bharti, Raiv Pratap Rudy, Radha Mohan Singh and Sanjeev Balyan have already resigned from their respective offices. These ministers had resigned on Friday after the BJP chief Amit Shah met senior ministers at his Delhi residence. Arun Jaitely, who is presently holding the charge of two ministries- Finance as well as Defense, is likely to shed one of the two. On Thursday, Narendra Nath Pandey was appointed Uttar Pradesh BJPs Chief. In this mega reshuffle, two fresh faces from Bihar’s JDU are likely to join Prime Minister Modi’s brigade.
Amidst the Aam Aami Party’s latest defeats, this victory is seen as a confidence booster. As the results of the by-elections to the Bawana Constituency Assembly were proclaimed on Monday, AAP heaved a breathe of ease. The Aam Aadmi Party’s candidate Ram Chander defeated BJP’s Ved Prakash (former AAP leader) by a margin of over 24,000 votes. While the party’s candidate received 59,886 votes, the BJP’s and Congress’ candidate received 35,834 votes and 31,919 votes respectively. Addressing AAP workers at his residence, Arvind Kejriwal dared the BJP to use VVPAT (Voter Verified Paper Audit Trail) which enables voters to verify whether their votes were cast correctly by demonstrating paper trails for the next elections.
