There’s little doubt that this year’s demonstrate will be remembered for the ultra extreme hypercars and beautiful British sportcars unwrapped for the very first time to the public – who’ll be able to leave behind Bugatti’s 1,500bhp Chiron and Lamborghini’s bonkers Centenario?
But there were also some significant mainstream car launches that should provide slew of excitement for those looking to buy a car in the next twelve months.
From hybrid SUVs to old-school sports cars and turbocharged city cars, there were exposes to suit all needs. We’ve listed our ten favourites from the display – and three we were less inspired about.
Some think the Fiesta ST was wanting for power – now it has an extra kick, with an upgrade from 180bhp to 197bhp in the ST200
1. Ford Fiesta ST200
The current Ford Fiesta ST has won slew of admirers with the fast-turning, sweet-handling chassis – we’d go as far as telling it’s the best puny hot-hatch you can buy today. However, some argue it could do with a bit more power.
That’s where this latest model, the ST200, will fulfill the desires of these select people. Upping grunt from 180bhp to 197bhp, the swan-song for the soon-to-be-replaced Fiesta also gets fresh gear ratios to cut the 0-62mph time to 6.7 seconds.

HOW THIS IS MONEY CAN HELP
No prices have been announced, but expect to pay a £1,000 premium on the current range-topping £19,645 ST-3 model.
The one problem it faces is the Fiesta ST Mountune, created by Ford’s tuning fucking partner. The fast-Ford specialists will upgrade a standard Fiesta ST for £599 to increase power to 212bhp, pruning 0.Three seconds off the 0-62mph time of the ST200 – and it doesn’t invalidate the manufacturer warranty.
Look beyond the Type-R-like design features and you’re left with what could be a very practical family hatch
Two. Honda Civic prototype
By Honda’s own admissions, the Civic has become a little ‘conservative’ in design. Fresh project leader for the 10th generation family-hatchback, Daisuke Tsutamori, told us the brand wished to ‘make the design more desirable for junior customers’, hence why this prototype version of the two thousand seventeen Civic looks rather extreme.
But once you look beyond the luminous brake calipers, dual harass and oversize mesh grilles, what you’re left with is a more practical family hatchback than ever before.
With the larger Accord now killed off for the European market, the Civic has got fatter to pack this void. According to Honda, it’s lower and broader than before to improve dynamics. However, the wheelbase has also enhanced by a claimed 30mm and the piles have been thinned to improve interior space.
This boost in practicality could give the volume-selling Ford Concentrate and reigning European Car of the Year Vauxhall Astra a run for their money when it goes on sale in the UK next January. It will also be the very first Honda to feature the brand’s fresh turbocharged 1.0 and 1.5-litre petrol engines.
The car, which is a global model that will also sell in the US, is being built exclusively at the Swindon plant, which has received a £200m investment from the manufacturer as a result. Good news all round.
Porsche nine hundred eleven purists will be fighting over the fresh R – with a manual gearbox and naturally-aspirated engine, it’s the last edition in a dying breed
Three. Porsche nine hundred eleven R
As much as this feature is about affordable fresh cars for the future, the nine hundred eleven R doesn’t fairly fit the bill with its £136,901 price tag. And once you bear in mind that production is limited to nine hundred ninety one cars globally, you might wonder how it’s made it into our top Ten.
But for nine hundred eleven purists, this is a wish come true in a world of turbocharging and paddle-shift automatic gearboxes.
While the standard nine hundred eleven has gave way to emissions limitations and had a turbo fitted – much to the horror of Porsche fans – the nine hundred eleven R uses a naturally-aspirated Four.0-litre flat-six engine. In fact, it’s the same one used in the track focused GT3-RS and generates 439bhp to produce a staggering 201mph top speed.
A 0-62mph sprint will take Trio.7 seconds, and you’ll have to be an integral part of the process because the R is only available with a manual gearbox – a driving enthusiasts fantasy.
And instead of being stripped down and fitted with a roll-cage like the race-ready GT3-RS, the nine hundred eleven R has a fully-kitted interior, making it ideal for the road as well as the track. So, at a open up, it could be an everyday car.
