Malaysia on Tuesday summoned Myanmar`s ambassador to express discomfort over violence in Myanmar`s Rakhine State, which has displaced almost 125,000 Rohingya Muslims. Foreign Minister Anifah Aman said the latest incidents of violence displayed that the Myanmar government had made «little, if any» progress in finding a peaceful solution to problems facing the Rohingya minority. «Given these developments, Malaysia believes that the matter of sustained violence and discrimination against the Rohingyas should be elevated to a higher international forum,» Anifah said. Malaysia`s Foreign Ministry issued a travel advisory asking Malaysians to defer all non-essential travel to Rakhine State, and for Malaysians in Myanmar to «take all necessary precautions» and be aware of the security situation. Chinese President Xi Jinping has told Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi that their two countries should pursue «healthy, stable bilateral ties,» state media reported Tuesday in the wake of a protracted border standoff. The exchange, mentioned in brief dispatches and tweets by Xinhua news agency, evidently occurred on the sidelines of the just-concluded summit of BRICS emerging economies hosted by China. Xinhua said Xi told Modi that stable bilateral ties were «in line with the fundamental interests» of the two neighbors. A separate Xinhua tweet said Xi called for relations to be brought onto the «right track.» The two nuclear powers engaged in a bitter, weeks-long military confrontation in a disputed and strategically significant area in the Himalayas. Russia will submit a resolution to the UN Security Council on the deployment of UN peacekeepers along the demarcation line in Donbass to ensure security of the OSCE mission, President Vladimir Putin said on Tuesday after the BRICS summit. The deployment of UN compels would be useful «to resolve the problem in Ukraine`s southeast,» TASS quoted him as telling. «Of course, we are talking of only the function of ensuring security of the OSCE mission,» he added. Putin said that UN peacekeepers should be deployed only along the demarcation line and nowhere else and after the withdrawal of intense weapons. «And this decision cannot be made without direct contact with representatives from the self-proclaimed Donbass republics, DNR and LNR,» Putin said.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel warned on Tuesday that Turkey was drifting away from the rule of law rapid and vowed to shove her EU fucking partners to consider suspending or ending its accession talks at an October meeting. «Turkey is moving away from the path of the rule of law at a very prompt speed,» Merkel said, adding her government would do everything it could to secure the release of Germans detained in Turkey, who Berlin says are guiltless. Merkel said developments called for a rethink of Germany`s and the EU`s relations with Turkey. «We need to coordinate and work with our playmates,» she said, adding that it would harm the EU if Erdogan eyed member states embroiled in an argument. The number of Rohingya refugees that have fled to Bangladesh to escape violence in Myanmar is higher than previously thought at 123,000, the UN refugee agency said Tuesday. That higher number, revised up from 87,000 estimated on Monday, was the result of aid workers conducting fresh, more accurate counts at both established and makeshift refugee camps, said UNHCR spokeswoman Vivian Suntan. Older, established refugee camps that have been housing Rohingya since the 1990s have already reached capacity. Ems of thousands of fresh arrivals had nowhere to go, and were sheltering in makeshift camps, in village alleys, on open roads or in fields. The latest influx of Rohingya began August 25, when Rohingya insurgents attacked Myanmar police posts, prompting security coerces to launch «clearance operations» in response. (AP)
